What Do Your Kids Do On Lazy Afternoons?

Mine like to look at bugs under the microscope.

Claire found some cicada shells - the shell they leave behind after molting and getting wings. So of course her first thought was to get out the microscope and check them out.

Very interesting. After giving it an examination and dissection the fun was over.

Next task: Catch a live cicada, have Dad freeze it so we can check out one with wings.

Yep, that is summer fun in the Thomas household.

Weekend Update

Last week we attended our friend Aidan's 5th birthday party. It was lots of fun. First we went bowling. Good thing they had the railings up. Real bowling is a lot harder than playing on the Wii.

After cake and presents we went over to the arcade for some games. Sarah hit the jackpot winning 250 tickets. She was thrilled to say the least!

Look at all the tickets we got! Now to pick out prizes.

They both had to choose fake teeth. It was pretty funny to trick Dad. We wore them in after the party and told him we ate too much candy.

Sarah helped make brownies.

On our way out to Honda to go swimming we spotted some vultures. How cool.

We also went to the science museum and saw our first 3D movie.

We loved the Dolphin and Whales 3D movie. We kept trying to reach out and pet the whales. It was so much fun!

A Quick Trip to Canada

We took a quick trip to Canada this week. We were supposed to stay longer and camp, but Dad's back was not cooperating so we had to head home early. Sorry to all of you we didn't get a chance to visit with! We will hopefully be back soon. We did get a chance to see our fav dog Sadie!

And to relax in Aunt Lori's hot tub!

Ahh.....

We went mini-golfing with our cousins. They were very nice and let us cheat.

We tried on some of Grandma Feenie's jewels. Aren't I beautiful!

Canada Day boat ride.

Captain Claire driving the boat with Grandpa's help.
We saw an eagle, a beaver and lots of bats.

On the boat with Grandma.

Of course Grandma took us for lots of golf cart rides.

Even Barbie got in on the Canada festivities. Take it easy girl....

Sarah refused to admit she was tired, even though she had been staying up to nearly 10pm every night.

Dad caught a baby snapping turtle.

The three amigos created a Canada Day flag.

Claire created a sandcastle town decorated with flowers.

Unfortunately we had to cut our trip short and bring Dad home to rest his back - hopefully we can come back soon!

Hanging With Friends

Last week our friends made the long drive from Canada to hang out with us. We had lots of hot weather and sunshine for them. We spent everyday in the pool having a great time.

We took a trip to the zoo. Jungle Jack's is open for the summer so of course we rode the frog hopper at least 6 times along with lots of other rides.

Mr. Tiger gave us a warm welcome by pacing right in front of us.

Riding the train.

We took a trip to the splash pad for some summer fun. Water, picnic, ice cream what could be better?

Melodie and Claire snuggling.

Claire and Jules ready for the pool.

Thanks for coming all the way to visit!

Safety Town

This week I attended Safety Town. It was so great. I had so much fun and we learned so much!

Each day there was a safety theme. We learned about fire safety, the police, strangers, water safety, learning to cross the street, how to call 911 and animal safety.

The best part (in Claire's opinion) was that the class was based on your school so Claire got to know some of the kids who will be in her kindergarten class. Glad to get a head start on those social outings - I am already trying to book some play dates.

I loved riding the bikes and learning how to cross the street.

I got to press the buttons and make the sirens go on a police car!

We learned to stop, drop and roll. We also practiced crawling under smoke (fog) and coming up with a fire safety plan.

Here we are with Detective McGruff, the safety dog.

Friday was graduation. We went to the high school so all the parents could attend. Each class got on stage to sing. Our class, the goofy grapes sang about the police.

Safety Town was awesome! I learned so much and I can't wait for school to start (74 days, not that mom is counting or anything). If you need any safety tips I will be more than happy to share them with you.

Gymnastics Girl

I love gymnastics. I am a very talented novice 1. I thought I would share some pictures of me working hard in class.

On the bars I have learned how to 'skin the cat' all by myself. I love to hang upside down.

Coach Thad is the best. I really like him and his silly songs. He is the coach of the girl's competitive team and he says I have potential. Above I am mastering the back roll.

Here is my star position on the beam.

Walking backwards on the beam can be a challenge. Once I learned to do it without sucking my thumb and twirling my hair it was much easier.

Step one of learning to cartwheel is getting those feet off the ground. I am a natural.
See you on the flip side!
